SferaOne accelerates energy transition in Albania with 12.9 MW floating solar plant

  • SferaOne has signed a contract to build a 12.9 MW floating photovoltaic plant in Albania, marking a new milestone in its commitment to renewable energy
  • The project will avoid CO2 emissions through the production of clean energy and establishes a replicable model for future renewable initiatives in the region

Madrid, 23 October 2024SferaOne, a company specialising in energy generation, savings and efficiency solutions, is moving forward in the energy transition with the signing of an EPC (Engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the construction of an innovative 12.9 MW floating photovoltaic plant in the hydroelectric reservoir of Vau i Dejes, Albania. This milestone reinforces SferaOne’s commitment to renewable energy and marks a new chapter in the development of sustainable solutions in the region.

The project, the first of its kind in Albania, will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions through the generation of clean energy. Thanks to this floating plant, thousands of tonnes of polluting emissions will be avoided each year, demonstrating that renewable energies are not only viable, but also essential for the energy future of the Balkans. This technology also establishes a replicable model for future renewable initiatives across Europe.

The project has been funded by the WBIF (Western Balkans Investment Framework) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Albania and the Albanian Electricity Corporation (KESH), within the framework of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.

Pedro Cuevas, CEO of SferaOne, highlighted the importance of this project: ‘We are proud to lead this initiative that not only reinforces our commitment to sustainability, but also lays the foundation for the implementation of innovative technologies in the energy sector in Albania and beyond.
