- Extends its presence into a third international market, positioning itself as a leading independent operator in the UK, Portugal, and Spain
- This milestone follows approval from MOBI.E, designating Wenea as CPO, Charge Point Operator, and eMSP, Electric Mobility Service Provider
- Wenea’s app paves the way for interoperability in a new market, offering its customers access to over 100,000 charging points throughout Europe
Madrid, march 7, 2024. Wenea, the leading electric vehicle charging operator in Spain, has announced its expansion into Portugal, becoming the first Spanish independent operator to offer services in the Portuguese market. The company already has two operational stations and plans to continue expanding the number of charging points throughout the country.
In parallel, the company solidifies its position in its third international market, establishing itself as a leading independent operator in the UK, Portugal, and Spain. In the latter, it boasts over 1,200 operational charging points, positioning itself as the country’s most extensive ultra-rapid charging network. Furthermore, these stations are strategically located to meet the charging needs of electric vehicle customers, with power capacities of up to 360 kW.
The Spanish company’s milestone was achieved following approval and integration with MOBI.E. As such, the Portuguese public company, which manages the Electric Mobility Network, accredits Wenea as an eMSP (Electric Mobility Service Provider), allowing it to market its charging services across the extensive network of chargers in the neighboring country. Prior to this, Wenea put its first two charging stations into operation in Portugal and obtained its license as a CPO (Charge Point Operator).
Wenea’s strategy in the neighboring country involves expanding its network of proprietary charging points in urban and interurban areas and attracting customers through a diverse and competitive range of charging services.
Interoperability and sustainable mobility across Europe
With this expansion, Wenea’s Spanish customers traveling to Portugal will be able to charge their vehicles using the company’s mobile application and payment methods, thanks to the interoperability it offers with over 100,000 charging points distributed throughout Europe.
Alberto Cantero, CEO of Wenea: ‘Entering the Portuguese market as an Operator represents a significant milestone in our expansion strategy. Furthermore, in an integrated energy market such as the Iberian Peninsula, with over 100,000 vehicles traveling the roads of the Spanish-Portuguese border every day, it makes perfect sense for our offering as Mobility Service Providers to be integrated as well. We are firmly committed to promoting the transition to increasingly sustainable mobility, with an infrastructure and charging network without barriers, directly addressing the needs of our customers, and actively contributing to reducing carbon footprint in travel.’
