Madrid, 9th December 2021. Wenea, a leading provider of fast electric vehicle charging services in Spain, has reached an interoperability agreement with NewMotion, a subsidiary of the Shell Group.

Through this collaboration, customers using the Wenea app will be able to access NewMotion’s network of 13,000 public charging stations, including 400 fast and ultra-fast chargers, enabling them to travel across the European space. Similarly, Shell Recharge users will have access to ultra-fast charging points in Spain for the first time, starting this month.

In this way, both operators provide electric vehicle customers with a mobility solution that allows them to travel throughout Europe using a single network of reliable, guaranteed, and accessible charging points. Both companies are working on integrating their platforms, which is expected to be completed in 2022.

This interoperability agreement improves service coverage for our customers, offering them a wide network of charging stations through the Wenea app. With the roaming technology implemented in our platform, we will be able to provide service in a large number of new markets, including the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Belgium, reaffirming our commitment to CO2-free and accessible mobility for all customers within and beyond our borders,” said Alberto Cantero, CEO of Wenea.

Por otro lado, Jean Baptiste Guntzberger, Director Regional para el Sur de Europa de NewMotion, afirma que “On the other hand, Jean Baptiste Guntzberger, Regional Director for Southern Europe at NewMotion, states that “Access to a good public charging infrastructure is of great importance when making the switch to an electric vehicle. For this reason, roaming agreements, such as the one signed with Wenea, are key to providing mobility to electric vehicle customers. This agreement allows us to expand our network with over 300 fast charging points, so that with the Shell Recharge card and app, our customers can access over 250,000 public charging points in 35 European countries, including more than 4,250 in Spain.”.

This agreement is part of Wenea’s overall goal to democratize electric vehicle charging by offering the largest network of fast and ultra-fast charging stations in Europe. It also underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable mobility and the reduction of CO2 emissions. To this end, in December 2020, the European Investment Bank (EIB) provided Wenea with a €50 million investment to deploy 470 stations, a project that will be completed during 2022.
